OPGW optical fiber composite overhead optical cable is an overhead ground wire containing optical fibers, which are placed in the ground wire of the overhead high-voltage transmission line to form the optical fiber communication network on the transmission line. It has dual functions of overhead ground wire and optical communication, mainly used for communication lines of 110KV, 220KV, 500KV, 750KV overhead voltage transmission systems; It can also be used to replace the existing ground wire of the old overhead high-voltage transmission system, add optical communication lines, transmit short-circuit current, and provide lightning protection.
Due to the metal wire wrapping, OPGW optical cables are reliable, stable, and sturdy. Due to the combination of overhead ground wires and optical cables, compared to other methods of optical cables, it not only shortens the construction period but also saves construction costs. At the same time, OPGW optical cables can be customized with special structures according to user needs.
OPGW Cable Features
- Adopting advanced stainless steel production technology, the pipes are filled with water blocking compounds;

- During the construction of optical cables, power outages are necessary, resulting in significant losses. The OPGW optical cables used are generally used for new lines;
- The larger the short-circuit current, the more it is necessary to use good conductors as armor, which correspondingly reduces the tensile strength. However, when the tensile strength is constant, to increase the short-circuit current capacity, the only way is to increase the metal cross-sectional area, which leads to an increase in cable diameter and cable weight, and the strength of the line tower needs to be correspondingly increased.
